I was on the last stretch of my journey in Hokkaido where I had arrived in Iwamizawa. So, needless to say, when I entered my room, I felt a huge relief what with how much space there was and how I could finally settle down and relax. If you’re travelling to the town by train, the station is a small walk away—I’d recommend taking something like the taxi to and fro if you have luggage with you, although it’s not impossible to go by foot even in the winter (just be mindful that you’ll be walking on snowy pavements for a lot of the time). The hotel has two konbini (Family Mart and Seico Mart) within very close distance the moment you walk out the entrance, and also a shopping mall (100 yen store, clothing, book/manga/magazine store, and some more) and several restaurants nearby. That’s assuming you don’t simply opt for the restaurant services they offer at the hotel. There’s an option to have breakfast every morning—it’s a decently sizeable buffet offering options for both a typical Western style breakfast as well as a typical Japanese style one. As you only have one breakfast coupon to take care of, be sure to collect the next morning’s one later on in the day from reception! And speaking of reception: I’ve had a lot of help from them as they went out of their way to help me find a few souvenirs. Iwamizawa is a quiet town—or at least it was when I was there—so it can be a little tricky to find a few things. But they helped quite a lot with some of the investigation work, and this was in the midst of National Foundation Day observations. *I should point out, however, that we communicated entirely in Japanese.* I don’t know at all how it may be if you only speak English—that isn’t me being polite or implying anything, but rather I literally do not know. I imagine, though, that one could still figure something out if the staff don’t already have a plan for this! The washroom unit was a little on the small side but it got the job done well enough for what it was and I was able to still enjoy a soak in the bath from time to time if not take a nice shower. There are a couple of vending machines out in the corridor as well as a microwave for public use. A kettle and ironing board are also found in one’s room. I don’t know if I have much more to say but I do know that I’m grateful for finding this place for a chance to look around Iwamizawa. There’s an amusement park in the town but I think it was closed for winter, or at least for the early February days I was there. If I ever find myself in town again, I’ll definitely consider coming back here again!
