Tsuganoki

As with most common reviews here, the facility could use a bit of TLC/Touch Ups. Other than that, my wife and I definitely enjoyed our stay and would love to come back and do it over again. The meals were great and its right in our alley of "list to experience". If you are a westerner and like traditional breakfast and dinner, then this place is not for you. It will be hard to find places catered for a western palette, but I bet during peak season, there will be more options to dine out. I would recommend this place for peace and tranquility, staffing and food.

Great ryokan a bit away from the highly touristy spots which allows a bit of a breather. Easy connection by train with or without the nikko pass. The ryokan has shuttles to the station. Staff is extremely helpful. Food is very good! My suite with view over the mountain was fantastic. I had an open air bath, which I enjoyed until I was visited by mosquitoes. Then I used the public baths that accepts small and medium tattoos. Definitely a great place to stay.
