26.05.20True Japanese hospitality! The hosts are polite, attentive, and provide excellent service with daily room cleaning, fresh yukatas, and hot/cold water thermoses. The historic property is well kept and very clean, especially the warm shared bathrooms. It is located in a quiet, safe area that is just a 9-minute walk to Takaoka Station and 3 minutes to Lawson. The breakfast is delicious and highly affordable. Plus, laundry and drying is only JPY 100! Highly recommended.
26.04.23With the iconic landmark situated right beside this location and an official sign board directing the location of this 94 YO ryokan, I can’t say the experience is memorable, enjoyable and impressive.
There was a wheelchair with oxygen tank visible once entering the accommodation.
Owner is able to speak English so it is helpful to the check in process.
HOWEVER, we were absolutely taken aback and was like a slap on the face to have been told, read the guidelines (a piece of paper), you have to leave your keys by the counter before going out.
You have to return by 11pm. That is your curfew and we found that restricted and absurd. That made us absolutely uncomfortable.
So we dropped a question, if we are hungry in the middle of the night, can’t we drop by a convenience store?
Quote “You will buy everything you need before you return”.
What?! I pay for a place to stay not for free. I was forced to return home by 11pm which is very unenjoyable. Travelling to the large Aeon mall nearby’
25.07.05The host is real kind, our ryokan experience is great. The place is beautiful and pristine, despite really old and traditional. It's very well maintained. They also serve lovely kaiseki set meal for a very reasonable price. Thanks so much, Mr Shioda for your kind gestures and hospitality towards my family.
