Basaratei

The inn is a traditional Japanese onsen hideaway. Staff will arrange a transfer from the nearby train station. Food is phenomenal and abundant. The rooms are a tad bit outdated and not sized for taller westerners (low sinks); but it is proper Japanese haven with exceptional staff and amenities.

Basaratei is a wonderfully-furnished ryokan with amazing facilities. I skipped the boat tour option since I was just solo, but could see it being fun with a sig other and/or friends. The meals were scrumptious and all the baths were comfortable to soak in. Shoutout to the staff for accommodating a last-minute ask to switch from their outdoor bath to an indoor one when we got a sudden downpour. The only dings I'd give Basaratei are regarding its location: It takes a while to get to even by express train, and you'll need a vehicle to visit any sites of interest in the area.
