The Trailside Hotel

It really depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking to get away and be away, this is your place. We arrived earlier than we expected and they did let us check in early. It was a quiet location, almost felt like a cabin get away. Room was pretty nice. Has fridge, microwave and a small coffee pot. Table and chairs too. An extra roll of toilet paper was oversighted but we had kleenex til the office was open in the morning. The people we met in the office were friendly and the cleaning lady that came in the morning was nice and asked f we needed any extra towels or anything. Overall.. quiet and a nice get away!

Our room had several tiles in the bathroom off the wall. The shower was so small my husband struggled to complete his shower and heaven forbid you bump the shower/water control. It went from freezing cold to scalding hot. The bathroom was so small and the toilet was so low it seemed like a toilet for a preschool child. There was something sticky in the carpet. The bed was not comfortable and there was no place to put a suitcase. The TV was very small, and the recliner type was so broken down it was very hard to get out of. The 'desk 'surface was rough and broke up. The chair for the desk was was stained badly and the dresser....was beat up and the drawers didn't look clean at all. No breakfast available, but there was coffee and a pot. Don't recommend at all.

Duluth is such a popular tourist destination particularly in July, that I chose this property as we only needed a place to sleep for a night. The owners were very pleasant people and accepted my printed confirmation from the booking site even though the reservation never showed in their system. Kudos to them for that. However, the property is really dated and the carpet in the room was super grungy, probably the worse I have ever seen. The grounds are very nice and it is in a quiet location and for me, I did not mind being a few minutes outside of Canal Park and downtown Duluth. I chose it solely due to price but probably would not choose it again.
