I never imagined I would give any hotel/lodging such a bad review until this. The entrance to the toilet is built at a height of about 2 steps on stairs. To allow guests to actually go in to the toilet, they put a wooden stool in front of the door. This is where the chaos begins. The surface of the stool is actually quite small, and to make matters worse it is not secured. When I stepped out of the bathroom, the stool rocked and gave way, causing me to fall to the floor. Immediately my back hit the edge of the entrance, and my feet hit against the wall as it was only a small washing area beneath the toilet. This happened around 12midnight, and it was only 1230am did we manage to get in touch with any hotel staff. Calls to the front desk were unanswered, and no one was around when my wife went to the front desk physically. Luckily my wife was able to help me up after the fall. After they finally picked up the phone at 1230am, and me limping to the front desk showing them the already swollen toes, the older and younger men at the front desk were totally unsympathetic and unempathetic, which leads me to believe that I am not the first person who experienced this. The only thing they could offer were plasters. Not even a simple word to check on my wellbeing. The crux of the issue is the unsafe environment in the room/s. If they knew that the toilet was built so high above the floor that a step needed to be there to allow guests to go safely and with ease, the step should have been a fixed structure, not a small stool where if u step on it wrongly it topples to the side and causes someone to fall. I was on a 2 week holiday in Kyushu and this happened just on my 4th night in Kyushu. The rest of my trip I had to limp around while trying the sights of Kyushu. After getting in touch with the hotel after the stay, they only agreed that the staffs' response was inadequate. Not even an apology even then, or ask whether I am doing better. Then more than a month later after I was already back home, offered 20,000yen compensation. To which I rejected as it was insulting. I cannot see how I can recommend anyone else stay in this hotel. Please avoid at all costs. Till this day 2 months my toes are still swollen. I have travel insurance and have claimed my own costs as not only is their initial response inadequate. their follow up is also insincere, and offer of compensation insulting.

Dinne are good value, with the Takezaki crabs and lots of seafood dishes. The dishes are so much that we were not able to finish all food. The coffee with the beautiful cups that we can choose from the collection of the ryokan is also a highlight. All rooms are facing the sea. Without own transport, it may be harder to reach the site.

The services from staffs were thoughtful and friendly. The location of onsens are excellent.
