25.11.09We loved our stay here — the couple running the place were super sweet and so accommodating. We both had dietary requirements and they very kindly adjusted the meals acccordingly (but be sure to ring ahead to let them know). The onsen was super hot and sulphurous as well which is a good sign. Heater in the room kept us warm at night. Overall an incredible and relaxing stay and I would happily recommend to friends and family if they come to Nikko.
24.11.10To my understanding, the lodge was opened in the 1930s or so. Despite its age, the place is very well-maintained.
The onsen bath is small but mighty. The meals prepared were simple yet deliciously sufficient.
My (own) mistake was visiting Nikko on a weekend, but to that end, you still get to enjoy relative peace and quiet offered by the accommodation.
For the price paid, which is lower compared to most accommodations within Yumoto Onsen during peak periods (weekend, golden week, etc.), you will get your worth.
