26.05.09The owner is very cool. I like the hotel right after arrival because the good smell.. The pillow and bed is so good that I asked for brand before leave. And the room itself is very enjoyable. You can see the culture and history behind while enjoy the modern facilities.
26.04.22I loved staying here! It was my first time staying in a traditional setting in Japan and it was a great base for exploring Kyoto. Just a 5 min walk to the train station and bus station, thats all you really need. The room we booked was so spacious and lovely, it smells of tatami. The beds are also quite comfy. Only things that are not so perfect is the personal sink is tiny (but they have larger communal ones available. downstairs) and its location is by the main road so you hear traffic in the mornings. The staff are friendly as well and helped moved our luggage up the stairs. We also liked having a laundry machine available and we just dried our clothes by the terrace.
24.07.14It's a wonderful and beautiful hostel where I spent some peaceful days. I feel truly enriched and hope to come back again.
23.09.21Incredible finishes and immaculate- like it had just been finished . So if you are a little clumsy maybe not for you, as every scratch will show :)
23.04.12Really value for money despite its "hostel" name. We stayed in the Twin room with our own bathroom, pantry with fridge and microwave. Really clean room with daily changing of towels provided. The beds are on the second floor while the bathroom is on the first floor so this room is not recommended if you are travelling with older people. But the room & space available is bigger than standard Japanese hotels which was really nice. I think the other traditional tatami rooms on the ground floor in Hostel Ayame do not have this issue on having to walk stairs.
Location-wise, it is near JR station, but it is not near the Kyoto touristy areas so may be a bit out of the way if you are visiting Kyoto for the first time & want to hit all the usual spots in a short amount of time. If you are planning to make some day trips from Kyoto, it is a good choice as the JR station is only 1 stop away from Kyoto station.
Shogo the owner/host made our stay really memorable as he recommended less well-known spots for our itinerary, all of which were really nice surprises since it was not our first time to Kyoto.
