First of all, the pictures belong to another property of the same owner (when you book here, you’re not booking at Hwood Hotel, instead at Dusk Hotel, a property a few blocks away from HWood)
The hostel is old and outdated and smells like old, weed and cigars, very awful (not kid friendly)
The cleaning staff and management was very friendly! The employees are not at fault here.
There is no free breakfast as advertised.
The rooms are very outdated, and smell weird, can’t tell what was the smell though. Thankfully I had a Lysol with me to spray during my stay. Old nasty carpets, the shower had a leak, the bathroom door handle was broken, etc. List is endless.
There’s a pool, yes. But dirty, I stayed more than a week and they only cleaned it once (didn’t see the water was changed). The pool chairs barely functional (do not get in that pool).
The parking lot is an open space, you see crackheads, hookers, and non-guest people accesing the parking lot, doing dumpster-diving, checking the cars parked, etc.
The location (food related) is good, many restaurants and grocery stores nearby. But be careful, during our stay we heard gunshots almost everyday (and beware that ambulances are a background noise 24/7 in that area).
The price is cheap but it comes at the cost of not sleeping well, constantly checking your car from the window during the night, brining your own bedding sheets and towels, hand soap, etc.
