Machiya Hotel Kakunodate

Location in samurai district. Modern and clean. Reasonable taxi cost from JR station to hotel, ¥750. Lawson convenience store and souvenir store next door. Stayed during cherry blossom season so cost was high for value.

Perfect location for exploring Kakunodate, spotless room, room size is small but you don’t even feel that because it is so well designed and equipped. Helpful staff.

We couldn't find any breakfast throughout the whole town. There is no shop open after 5pm except Lawson and there is no night activities at all.

My brother and I rolled into town very late and needed something to eat. Everything looked closed in the off season. The guy at the desk made a call and walked us a few blocks to an izakaya that was still serving. We were very grateful. The interior of the hotel is very nice. The room was a bit small, but it was super clean and well renovated. Very comfortable. Great location just south of the wonderful samurai village. Just south is a fabulous izakaya (a different one) and an onsen. In high season this place has got to be jumping. We had a good time.
