25.05.21If you're planning to spend most of your time out and just need a place to sleep, this inn could work for you. The single room is very compact—just enough space for a medium-sized suitcase and a small work area for a laptop.
Be aware that the stairs to the second floor are steep and narrow, so bringing luggage up may require assistance. Shared bathrooms and toilets (with separate booths for men and women) are located on the first floor. There’s a washing machine available, but if you have a lot of laundry, I recommend using a nearby laundromat instead.
Bathrobes (one-size-fits-all), towels, and small towels are available for rent. Interestingly, the rental fee goes toward feeding the resident cats.
During my stay, I experienced persistent insect bites and itchiness, despite keeping the windows closed the entire time. I reported this to the manager, who kindly installed an anti-insect device and sprayed the room with insect repellent (even while I was inside). Unfortunately, the solution only worked temporarily, and the issue returned within a couple of days.
On a positive note, the air conditioner and dehumidifier worked well, and the room came with a functional electric kettle, mug, and hair dryer. The inn is conveniently located in terms of transportation and access to popular tourist spots. It’s just a stone’s throw from the nearest bus stop, and several subway stations—Sanjo Keihan, Higashiyama, Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae, and Gion Shijo—are also within reach, though some require a bit more walking. Major attractions like Chion-in Temple, Yasaka Shrine, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and the Gion and Higashiyama districts are close enough to walk to, making sightseeing very accessible.
While I had a few issues with the caretaker/manager/owner, he was generally responsive and willing to assist when he understood the request. He does leave the premises at a certain time each day, so be sure not to forget the card key provided—it’s essential for unlocking both the front door and your room after hours.
