26.01.10 - Cannot use room during day, from 10 am to 4 pm.
- Cannot use bath in the morning. Only in evening from 4:30 pm to 12 pm.
We were not advised of these restrictions by Agoda and would not have booked had we known. Ended up leaving early and booking at ***. No refund of course.
25.11.20 We had a beautiful stay at this ryokan. It’s very traditional and authentic. The breakfast was also lovely and delicious. Staff was also amazing even if we couldn’t speak in Japanese. Highly recommend!
25.10.19 Great value stay in this quiet, seaside town. Character ryokan dating back 100 years or so. If you want authentic Japanese experience, Yamane is great value if you don't mind thin walls and noise from other guests.
25.07.25 Firstly this ryokan is in Mihara, about 10 ms train ride to Onomichi. Though trains between Onomich and Mihara run only once/hour so make sure to check the train schedule if your primary objective is sightseeing in Onomichi.
That said, we actually enjoyed discovering Mihara, it has nice retro atmosphere and some nice authentic restaurants/eateries much cheaper than Onomichi. It was a nice surprise.
The ryokan is quite old and facilities are quite tired, bathroom/toilets are shared. It very much has good old ryokan atmosphere that you see less and less. Rooms are bigger than modern hotels such as apa, livemax...(6 tatami mats). I could easily do yoga in my room.
Overall I found it a good value for money, and a quite unique experience.
