26.05.03I stayed at two branches of The People during my Paris trip, and this one was the weaker of the two — though not without its merits.
Let's start with the good, because it genuinely is good: the location is a 10 out of 10. Right next to the Seine, walking distance to some of Paris's best highlights, and a metro station on the doorstep for everything else. Hard to fault.
The dorms and kitchen, though, feel noticeably cramped for the size of the hostel. The kitchen has around six stools and a narrow bench — fine if you're the only one in there, but during busy periods you're practically in the way of anyone else trying to cook. Limited utensils don't help either. Worth managing your expectations if self-catering is a priority.
The showers work on a timer button — a decent idea in principle, but the intervals are frustratingly short. You'll need to hold it down the equivalent of three presses just to get the water up to temperature. A minor thing, but it adds up.
There is a lovely co-working and bar space a couple of floors down — a genuinely nice spot to sit and unwind. Just be aware that outside drinks aren't permitted in there, including water. There's no signage to warn you, so you may get caught out before you know the rule.
As for the staff — one person stood out as genuinely helpful and friendly. The rest, on the whole, seemed like they'd rather not be interrupted. It's not a dealbreaker, but it does affect the atmosphere.
It wasn't a bad stay — the location alone makes it worth considering. But if you're choosing between branches, I'd point you towards the other one. Friendlier, roomier, and overall a more comfortable experience — even if it means a bit more legwork to get around the city.
Good to know: the co-working/bar area is a great space but has a no outside drinks policy — including water. There's no sign to tell you, so now you know.
