Gran Hotel

The staff were super helpful with local food recommendations and in securing me a taxi to the station on the day i left (needed to prebook for a very early trip). Location is further from the station than i would have preferred but GREAT for food in the surrounding area. There is an award winning Italian restaurant on the ground floor and Yakiniku Hige down the road was DELISH. And a Family Mart just across the road.

They prioritized comfert and service

I stayed at Gran Hotel for one night in December. The check in went very smoothly. The clerk spoke English which was helpful. The room is modest but clean. The decor throughout the building is a few decades old, but I did not get the impression that it was not clean. There is some ware that was noticeable in the bathroom, but otherwise everything was in good condition. The best part was the breakfast buffet- fried chicken, miso, rice, natto, lotus root, pickled plum. The second best part was that I was a short walk to the bus stop to catch the 51 bus to Hongucho. I would stay here again, considering how affordable it was to stay here.

Everything is good

Hotel is about 15 mins walk from Shingu station. It is pretty old-fashioned but in actual fact, room is pretty comfortable. Staff was amazing and communicated well, in little English that they have or with a translator. They were pretty helpful with our question and tried to explain things to us to their best effort. Hotel breakfast was included in our price but had little variety. We did not expect much so it was still ok for us. The old ladies working the kitchen were very sweet, trying to explain where things were in Japanese. Close by is a supermarket, convenience mart and restaurants to eat. Washer and dryer were both free to use, but we could not fully dry our clothes despite setting 60 mins drying time each time. We think that someone had opened to checked the inside which defaulted the dryer to 15 mins dry time when restarted, because each time we went down to check, it had stopped early. The second time, we waited in the area to make sure nobody touched the dryer (some guest almost did when we were there). In the end, we did borrow some hangers from the receptionist staff to dry them fully in the room. If you do intend to use the dryer, remain in the area to make sure that nobody touches it to ensure your clothes will be fully dried.
