26.02.02I stayed for 7 nights over New Years 2026, located in the heart of the old city of Hiraklion. My room was renovated and modern, with a lovely Italian style shower. Exceptionally clean throughout. The hotel is on a very quiet back street, and noise was not an issue at all.
Yummy full buffet breakfast was included.
Staff helpful in every way!
A block away you find high street shopping of every kind. I bought Italian hiking boots while there. One block west, a vegetable store opens late.
The "Lion Square" fountain is nearby. Don't miss the exhibition space near the square.
So many restaurants in this area that it's hard to choose!
I had the most terrific stay at Veneziano Hotel, and would definitely go back.
25.12.30Pros
- old apartment building converted into this hotel, so the hotel looks pretty old from outside but big surprise once you get in to the room modern large toilet and bathroom, clean bedroom and living room with nice furniture. Reasonable breakfast in their cafe, Nothing to complain about the room. Hotel is few meters walk from Citi center, all main tourist attractions, ton of restaurants and bars. But cons outweigh the Pros.
Cons
- Hotel staff are unavailable most of the time, never pick up the phone, if any emergency you are screwed big time because they were no where to be seen.
- All rooms in this hotel has old key lock system, different rooms are in different part of the streets and you have to carry multiple keys with you all the time to open two or more doors to get to your room and some of the door locks are decayed, rusted and bit challenging to open and this is really a big pain in the butt.
- On my last day, I was doing early morning check out, being told to leave the key in my room because reception was operating only for few hours and there is no key drop off location. This was a big mistake by the hotel considering they have multi-door entry system. when I left my room with my keys locked inside, the main door was locked by someone, now I don’t have a key to unlock the main door because I was being told by staff to leave the keys inside my room so I got stuck for one hour unable to enter my room and unable to open the main door. I called the hotel reception multiple times, left countless voice messages but no body bother to respond finally I called emergency police number and thank god the police patrol bought reception staff to open the door. I was really angry, about to miss my flight to Athens. I will never stay in this hotel unless they modernize their room door locking system and hire some responsible staff.
- Also the room I stayed was in street level so plenty of noise during night time, if you open the window, you can see pedestrian's on streets, so blinds needs to be closed all the time or else you are in Amsterdam RLD window vibe. So be careful choosing room in this hotel.
25.12.29Central location just next door to shopping and dining attractions. Extremely friendly hosts who run this property (seems like a family-run business). The breakfast options, made to order, were fantastic and the private internal yard/sitting area was a great touch. Really enjoyed my stay, though it's worth noting that this casual style may not be for everyone.
25.10.17Nice small hotel on 'edge' of town that is only 10 minutes walk to centre. It has a number of good restaurants within a couple of minutes walk and is a good base to see Heraklion.
25.08.24We stayed two nights at this boutique hotel. Very conveniently located. Breakfast is delicious, very friendly staff.
