Bel Jou Hotel

I had a great stay at Bel Jou, the staff are very welcoming and made a great effort to look after me and my granddaughter. Everybody I encountered looked like they enjoyed working at the Bel Jou. The buildings are well maintained and everywhere is clean. I enjoyed the food which was always tasty. The hotel represents good value for money.

I travelled on business, and the Bel Jou is well-located, close to the centre of town and to government offices. I have never stayed in an all-in resort hotel before, so this whole thing was a new experience for me. Actually sometimes quite nice to find that everything is just there - three buffet meals a day, no choice. Not for the adventurous holidaymaker, but great for the weary business traveller after a long day of meetings, and the tourists all seemed to be enjoying it. There were alot of repeat visitors, predominantly over-50s Brits and N. Americans, including Saint Lucian ex-pats. A very friendly bunch. And no children, which made for peace and quiet. The food is unimaginative, hearty and filling - the emphasis is on deep-fried things, stews and steamed vegetables, but tasty and with a good choice (and always fruit and salad on offer). I appreciated the "local food' corner. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are two small-ish pools. The bedrooms were big and light. Everything is perfectly clean and functioning, but definitely dated and a bit 1990s -- within the rooms and outside. There was alot of noisy construction while I was there, which I didn't appreciate so much. All in all, a good, solid option, mid-range not luxury, a local, homely feel not international glitz and chic, and a decent price. I'd stay there again.
