We visited from Vietnam for a birthday celebration. I booked a room with a balcony - so we could sit out in the morning and evening- for 4 nights but we only stayed for 3. The guesthouse is a beautiful heritage building that has been very nicely renovated, but it needs a few repairs and updates to bring it back. The balcony is not exterior as we had hoped. It looks down into the shop so it’s not private and we were unable to keep the doors open because of mosquitoes, so essentially the room has no exterior windows, which made it dark. As much as we tried to keep them out, each night we were buzzed and bitten by mosquitoes so we didn’t get a very good sleep. We turned on the fan to help but it was so dusty that the room filled with dust particles, so that didn’t work. A mosquito net would have been perfect. The lampshade beside the bed was dirty and broken, and we could hear running water from somewhere in the bathroom all the constantly. Also, no one told us if we could get coffee or breakfast in the morning, so we are still unsure if it was available to purchase or just for the people who had it included in their room rate, but we saw some people with coffee and eggs in the mornings. The hosts were very nice people, so we didn’t ask for a refund or complain when we moved., but we wish we had known these things beforehand so we wouldn’t be disappointed. This place could be much improved with some attention to detail.

This is a cute place to stay. Old heritage home. Rooms were based over 2 floors. It was clean and most amenities provided within the rooms. However, there was only one iron thats seen better days and this had to be shared with others. No iron board. My low review for the amenities is solely based on one major issue. We paid for an extra bed which wasnt in the room when we got there and had to ask for it. The form the bed came in however was 2 thin floor mats on top of one another. Which was very uncomfortable but we didn’t moan as we didn’t have any other options. Air con wasn’t the best. And finally, if you’re looking for a quiet environment for sleep this isn’t it. Where it’s based is quiet but the nature of the building and its wooden layout meant every noise was loud and it appeared as though the movement was happening within your room. If other guests came in it seemed at though your door was being opened. Furthermore, its quite close to the hustle and bustle of penang due to its location so fireworks were set off at 1/2am in the morning. There is plenty of food shops around and cat and dog cafes. We particularly enjoyed the food at Halab Syrian/Arabian food which was about a 5 min walk from the hotel.

Jane is a wonderful host who welcomed us warmly into her small hotel with only four rooms. It’s an incredibly მშვიდ and beautiful place, set in a charming century-old house that has been tastefully renovated while preserving its original character and details. We stayed for 5 days and found it very easy to get around Georgetown from there. Thank you for such a lovely stay!

This is a very authentic heritage guesthouse (only 4 rooms) in the heart of Georgetown. It's located on Love Lane which is very convenient, but is away from the hustle and bustle. However be aware, the North Studio Suite has very little sound proofing, and if you're staying here during the week, you will be awoken early by the school opposite, traffic and birds. Staff are lovely and very hospitable, Jane stayed late for us on check-in as we had a late flight. I found Penang bad for mosquitoes (this was coming from Borneo) and acquired many bites during our stay; still unsure if I got these in the guesthouse however I would recommend using deet spray daily. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, however if expecting and wanting a modern 4-5 star hotel, think again.
