25.06.13I don’t often write reviews, but The Cottage in Negombo completely stole my heart — and I can’t keep it to myself.
I originally booked for just one night. But by the first morning I was so enchanted that I changed all my travel plans to stay much longer. That says it all. But here’s why...
The setting is pure tropical magic. Think wooden cabin-style cottages nestled among the trees, with your own private staircase leading down to a peaceful pool. The rooms are spacious and elegant — a dreamy four-poster bed, a huge bathroom, and thoughtful, beautiful touches throughout. You wake up to the sound of birds and the soft rustling of trees, and just a short walk takes you to the beach. But truthfully? You won’t want to leave.
And then there’s the breakfast area by the lake. I can’t even describe how serene and special it feels having your morning coffee beside the water, shaded by nature, surrounded by peace.
But what truly makes this place unforgettable is the people.
From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond — not in a performative way, but with real warmth, care, and charm. They think of everything before you even ask: ice delivered to your room, drinks offered without prompting, perfect tuk-tuk arrangements, shopping help, extra pillows or towels — it’s all handled with such grace and kindness.
Rafi, Cha, and the wonderful owner Asanka — these are people with genuinely kind hearts who make you feel like part of their family. They aren’t just running a guesthouse; they’re creating an experience — and doing it beautifully. It’s rare to find service like this, where you feel so seen and cared for.
This is a new family-run business, but it already feels world-class. I was almost reluctant to post this review because, honestly, I want to keep this place to myself. It’s one of Sri Lanka’s best-kept secrets — but I know that won’t last for long.
I’ve since learned they also have a sister cottage in Sigiriya, and I will be going out of my way to stay there too. If it’s anything like this, I know it will be just as magical.
Don’t hesitate. Just book. You’ll fall in love, too.
