23.01.20We chose San Giorgio Villa mainly because it was one of the only hotels in the area that would accept our dog, and for the price, we weren't expecting very much, but it exceeded our expectations! The location was probably the best thing - right at the base of the Meteora cliffs (close to the monasteries, and also on a hiking trail up to them, if that's your thing). Kastraki is a much calmer, quainter town than Kalambaka so we were very happy to be based there. The nearby tavernas were delicious and the locals very friendly. The hotel itself is fine - a perfectly comfortable, no-frills room, hot shower (water pressure wasn't amazing), and clean enough. The bathroom could do with a deep clean, but it was January so perhaps they do that closer to the start of the season. Also, our room - just off reception - would be noisy if the hotel was busier. And it got a bit smokey from the balcony thanks to being close to a wood fire chimney the place next door (not a problem in the warmer months, off course). shared kitchen was a nice surprise, perfect for making a morning coffee. Breakfast was also basic, but tasty (they are quite strict about the times though!). The staff, friendly. All-in-all we were very happy to stay there and would stay again if we were in the area, but request a different room.
