26.05.07A very special place. A beautiful hotel, like stepping back in time but with very modern facilities. Absolutely lovely welcoming staff who went out of their way to ensure an enjoyable stay. Very relaxed atmosphere & peaceful. Beautiful walks on the grounds with superb views. The spa is second to none. Highlight was the outdoor infinity pool looking out on nature & views of the lake & fells. We’d return in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.

26.03.14Lovely historic building, great setting, large rooms, helpful and friendly staff, very nice breakfast, brilliant spa, and a fabulous snooker room to boot!
Probably goes to the top of my list of hotels to go back to as soon as possible.

26.03.08The building is certainly grand with stunning exterior and beautiful greenery. The interior is somewhat tired and certainly not luxurious. It is a 4 star hotel with a 5 star price tag. Upon arrival we were told we had to order room service as the restaurant was fully booked in the morning. One of their 2 restaurants was also fully booked for the night. Some of the staff need training. They are polite but lack etiquette. We ended up being able to have our breakfast at the restaurant which was good but food was average. My spinach was finely chopped and watery resulting in a very soggy toast. Not to mention that defrosted spinach flavour. All and all not worth the money.

26.02.16I've visited 3 times and keep returning because it's a lovely hotel with free spa access included. So for a short relaxing break it is ideal. I prefer the cheaper rooms as they're located in the old part of the hotel, where you can enjoy a drink by a roaring open fire, alongside the gorgeous hotel cat, Saffy. The cooked breakfasts are good, but not outstanding. That's the one area I'd like to see improved. But we'll definitely return in the future.
