Grand Rockies Resort

The location is very good and walkable, this place was affordable. The windows are very nice. However, The building is not well finished, in the halls/stairwell wallpaper is coming off the wall. There were gaps in the flooring in our room where dirt is collecting. FYI they do not clean the rooms during your stay (was not told upfront, nor is this listed online). So I'm not sure what the extra service fee is for!

The website really makes this look like a fantastic place to stay with pretty photos and high reviews, but we found the property to be underwhelming in most areas that were important to us. Even in the off-season, the room took well past the 4pm check in time to be ready for us. The front clerk seemed indifferent to our objections. By no means were they rude, but the best they could offer us was a 'We will call you when it's ready'. The garage parking was underlit and difficult to determine where was an acceptable parking spot or not. Many of the sites were reserved or marked for other properties. When we did get into the room, our view was nothing more than construction debris on top of the roof. The majestic mountain peaks hidden beyond the rubble. The pool was loud and disruptive when in use. I expect a pool to be loud when being enjoyed by the guests, but you'd hope for a minimum amount of sound-proofing. The hallways were bare and rooms marked with printed out paper numbers. Anyone in the hall making a peep would echo throughout the entire unit (even behind closed doors). And the bed/pillows were just... not comfortable. Pros- Location was fine, easy enough to get to and from. The local shops and restaurants were full of friendly and helpful people. Cost was reasonable, despite the 'hotel fee' that wasn't added into my prepayment. Nobody likes those surprises though. Had a bbq that worked well, and a fireplace that helped add to the ambiance. All in all, we had much more enjoyable experiences at some of the other locations in town when we stayed there.
