Huge rooms, great bathroom with bath and shower, everywhere was spotless, water in room, massive wardrobes, mini bar with a few items, best bed I have ever slept in it was so comfortable. Windows had shutters so a total blackout. Sofa to relax in. Multi channel, multi language TV channels. Lift is small but functional. Red carpet on the stairs. Huge bar and sitting area. Massive dining room split in two, one section for dinner the other for breakfast. The most impressive selection of breakfast I’ve ever seen and they just keep refilling it. Staff are extremely attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Could do with a desk in the room for those of us working on the road. It’s winter so we didn’t check out the pool and there was a lot of rain around. We travel on motorbikes so the steep cobbled entrance is something to think about. We arrived on dry cobbles but left on slippery wet ones (back brake). The surface is better arriving and poor leaving on the roads leading to the steep entrance. Cobbles have lifted and are in piles in some locations. Car drivers you won’t have any kind of issues an also this is not the fault of the hotel, it’s the authorities. This hotel cannot be faulted. This is an old building incredibly restored and turned in to a hotel keeping all of its original features and high vaulted ceilings. It is full of atmosphere, character and history. Don’t drive past it. Great for functions and weddings. The food is amazing. If it hasn’t got a Michelin star yet it should have. Don’t go past the “Water Pudding”. It sounds unglamorous but you’ll thank me. 10/10 - 5 stars.

Bem localizada, e com muita história.

Three year ago we stayed at this place and fell in love. This year we booked superior rooms and it was quite a disappointing experience. The room was small and crowded. We tried to uprage our room but the the receptionist ask us a higher price per night as puplished on their website. Accident?? The mattresses was about 100 years old and the bathtub sealant was moldy. It was ok but but it felt neglected compared to 3 years ago. Another example is the grand staircase. It's carpet has not been cleaned during our 2 night stay and it was already dirty when we arrived.. The restaurant has a very novelle cousine menu where we could not find anything to eat which sounded a good choice. There are much better places down in the city for example "Casa Mia" All in all our love for this pousada has faded and we will not come back.
