Ryokan New Ougiya

I was initially sceptical about booking a trip to Tsuchiyu Onsen town. After the trip, however, I am glad I picked Ryokan New Ougiya. This place is amazing. Service-wise, the staff are extremely warm and friendly. The proprietress really went above and beyond to ensure that the duration of my stay was a pleasant one. This went from ensuring daily tasks like checking if we needed new bath towels and sleepwear, to checking on food and dietary preferences. Furthermore, on one of the days, she even offered to ferry a friend and me to a beautiful hill view. The other staff are also extremely proactive, ensuring that you will be treated like royalty during your stay here. Rooms-wise, the 8 tatami mat room was spacious, well-kept and smelled pleasant. The toilets were spotless, and the shower area was well stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, facial cleanser and more. Bath areas were impressive as well. The Ryokan features 2 floors of baths (1 for males and 1 for females), which are rotated routinely and cleaned hourly. The private baths are also well cleaned. The water temperature of both baths is good, with the private baths even allowing for temperature control via natural cold water. The food really sealed the deal to make me a returning customer, as the meals were all locally produced delicacies that each brought something new to the table every night. Every dish seems to be pretty healthy and without sacrificing flavour. Overall, I highly recommend this establishment and would definitely revisit. I would definitely like to extend my thanks to the proprietress and her crew for making this stay such a meaningful and pleasant experience.

Long time family run ryokan that pampers visitors as honored guests. Has a rustic feel because of the connected older structures, similar to our previous visits to small towns in Japan. Meals are outstanding, and the facility made extra efforts due to our late arrival…serving us that special meal our rooms! Definitely a pleasant experience with the staff and owner.
