The Old Ship Inn Hackney

What a gem of a find! The room was a great size and well presented. Great location a short walk from the station and on a quiet street. The pub had a great atmosphere and the staff were friendly.

Traditional east end pub, centrally located, serving food with a large selection of ales and spirits. The staff were extremely nice, we arrived before opening hours and they took care of our luggage and allowed us to sit in the bar until our rooms were ready, they even provided tea, with no charge. The single bedrooms were compact, but had everything needed, the beds were comfortable, and the shower hot. A very nice hotel which I will visit again.

I chose this hotel because it was cheaper than the nearby Travelodge. I won't do that again. I knew there was no lift, no air conditioning and no breakfast, but I wasn't prepared for other "highlights" of my stay, which included - the faint but unmistakable smell of sewage/methane (stronger but more gassy in the bathroom, fainter but more faecal in the main room) - loud noise from the pub until 12:30 a.m. (NB I was on the second floor; I pity anyone trying to sleep on the first floor) - a shower that I couldn't use, as its only settings were freezing cold and unbearably hot - a wash basin (which I had to wash in) at nearly chest height and with no plug - a single bed with an inadequate single duvet: I woke up in the night with cold feet, and I'm 5' 10" Avoid.

We were in Hackney for a gig and all our usual hotels were booked out for the Vitality 10k. We searched further afield and stumbled upon this gem. It was right by the venue we were heading to, and we had a lovely room right above a pub we didn't know existed, but was right up our street. The booking included 20% off good and drink. We had a burger each and a lovely craft beer. After the gig we had a nice G&T before bed... All at a bargain price. Would definitely recommend an will be returning in the future.

The beds are a bit small, the floors crack while walking, but what a friendly staff! Clean rooms. Nice pub downstairs with 20% off for hotel guests. Great area to explore! Very good value for money.
