Although ‘cafe’ space off the lobby is a mess (and lobby is not welcoming), halls, our room, and the public bath were very clean. Wallpaper and carpet choices in our room were terrible and didn’t match, but the room itself was very spacious and beds were comfortable. Right in town, just a couple minutes walk from the river (and one of the bridge onsen foot baths). ‘Main Street’ is less than 10 minutes on foot. Booking the night before our arrival, it cost us only ¥9000 for two people in a room with twin beds - on a Sunday in September. Had nice indoor and outdoor onsen baths. No elevator, you’ll need to carry your luggage upstairs. Great for people on a tight budget. Otherwise, spend more and stay in one of the really nice ryokan nearby.
